I think you must have heard of the term Virtual PC, if not actually it was given free of cost by Microsoft to work with Windows xp within Windows 7 i.e., without restarting the PX just like an application. This actually emulates Windows XP in a Windows 7 desktop.

Now as I previously told about the Ubuntu 11.10 a Free to Use OS and have lot of features all for free. So you can try that using a similar software like Virtual PC. Now here comes the Virtualbox in handy from Oracle, by which you can try the Ubuntu OS. And not only UBUNTU any other OS. Even Windows 8 beta can be tried, and this virtual box is so easy to use. So just go for it.

Sony Xperia S

Visually, the older device looks a little more enticing with its curvy edges. The new device has dropped the word ‘Arc’ from its name and consequently has none of the curved edges on the older Arc devices.

The Sony Xperia S is a little heavier (144 vs 117g) and larger (4.3 vs 4.2-inch screen) and has much better screen resolution (720 x 1280 pixels against 480 x 854 pixels). The camera is now a 12-megapixel one against the 8-megapixel camera of the preceding device, and it records 1080p video, a step up from the 720p video of the older device.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S runs a 1.4MHz single-core processor against the faster 1.5MHz dual-core processor on the newer device. The newer Xperia S also has double the system memory (1024 vs 512 MB RAM).

On paper alone, the Sony Xperia S outdoes the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S at almost everything, which is about as much as we expect for a newer version of any phone. However, the Android OS 2.3 (Gingerbread) on both devices may prove to be a handicap in a time when its rivals are gearing up with Android OS 4.0 (Ice-Cream Sandwich).

We do expect the Sony Xperia S to be introduced in Malaysia at around RM2000, which is what new Sony flagships cost these days. When it will show up is something we can’t quite tell you yet, but last year the Sony Ericsson Arc was in Malaysia within a month of CES. It makes sense that this will go on sale fairly quickly, before the older Android OS is no longer wanted by consumers.

At first glance, there is absolutely no change in the Arc S compared to the Xperia Arc. It still has a 4.2-inch display powered by Sony's Mobile Bravia engine - looks good on its own, but feels a bit washed out when compared to amoled displays. The phone still has an all plastic body with a glossy finish - and it's a fingerprint magnet. Overall, it still stands out as a stylish device thanks to the slim design. Internal storage has been upgraded to 1GB with support for an additional 32GB via microSD card. Android 2.3 with Timescape UI runs great, though we do think that Sony Ericsson should start preloading some more apps on their phones now. Battery life is the same as other Android smartphones; the phone needs to be charged once every day.Camera performance is average with noise visible in darker areas of most images. Shots taken in lowlight are full of noise unless the flash is used. Other than the sweep panorama mode, the phone also offers a 3D panorama mode to capture 3D images that can be viewed on a 3D capable TV/monitor. It shines with video though - the 720p HD resolution videos are top-notch quality and the LED flash is bright enough to be used as a video light. The sound from the speakers is remarkable thanks to Sony's proprietary xLoud technology. It all boils down to the price and the intense competition.The Arc S would have been great value for money if it was priced under Rs 25,000. For Rs 25,000, you can go for Samsung's Galaxy R Android 2.3 smartphone. It has the same size 4.2-inch display but runs a dual core 1Ghz processor with 8GB storage and a larger 1650mAh battery. If you want something more powerful and can spend around Rs 28,500, go for the Samsung Galaxy S II. It has a very high quality 4.3-inch super amoled plus display, 1.2Ghz dual core processor, 1GB RAM, 16GB storage, 8MP rear/2MP front camera and a 1650mAh battery.

Apple just unveiled the newest member of its iPhone lineup of smartphones. Dubbed the iPhone 4S, the latest offering by the Cupertino-based company is more of an incremental upgrade than a complete overhaul of the iPhone 4. Design and dimensions stay the same, but there's a notable increase in processing power.

The Apple iPhone 4S comes with the A5 chipset, which is the SoC that powered the iPad 2. It comes with a dual-core Cortex-A9 CPU and PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU, which as we know is a pretty powerful combo.
The Apple iPhone 4S also improves on the network data speeds of its predecessor. It's not the LTE everyone was hoping for, but 14.4 Mbps is still pretty good for most market. More importantly, however, the iPhone 4S is a true world phone, supporting both GSM and CDMA networks.
The other major upgrade that the Apple iPhone 4S brings is in the camera department. The 5 megapixel shooter of its predecessor has been replaced by an 8 megapixel unit and the video recording has been upgraded from 720p to 1080p.

Much like its predecessor, the iPhone 4S will come in black and white color versions (only this time the white one will be available from day one). However there will be three storage options this time - a larger 64GB edition will join the 16GB and 32GB ones.

Amazon Fires- Kindle Fire Tablet

Amazon on Wednesday unveiled the Kindle Fire tablet, a 7-inch device that will cost $199, as well as a $99 touch version of its e-book reader, dubbed the Kindle Touch, and a $79 non-touch Kindle.

The Fire will ship on November 15, but is available for pre-order now.

The Fire includes an IPS display, an ultra-wide viewing angle, and fast dual-core processor, Amazon chief Jeff Bezos said during a New York press event.

It's light, easy to hold in one hand, 14.6 ounces, and it has all the content.

Fire will merge all of Amazon's services, including Amazon Web Services, Prime, Kindle, Instant Video, MP3, and the AppStore. He talked up access to content, including 100,000 movies and TV shows, 17 million songs, apps, and full-color magazines. The company's Whispersync service has been extended to movies and TV shows.

Like Kindle, content will be backed up in the cloud, so you can delete things whenever you want.

Amazon EC2, meanwhile, will be used for Amazon Silk, a "split browser" that will partially live in the cloud and partially live on the Fire.

On the e-reader front, Bezos said the Kindle Touch e-book includes an advanced E Ink display, infrared touch interface, extra long battery life, access to millions of e-books, free storage in the Amazon Cloud, Audible integration, and more, including a feature known as X-Ray, which shows the "bones" of a book, or details Amazon thinks a reader would find interesting.

The Wi-Fi Kindle Touch is $99, but Amazon will also sell a 3G version of the Touch for $149. Both Kindles are available for pre-order today and will ship November 21. "We're going to sell many millions of these," Amazon chief Jeff Bezos said during a New York press event.

For those who don't need touch, the $79 Kindle is under 6 ounces and 18 percent smaller than previous Kindles, Bezos said. It's available for order today.

Open With Option Comes When Trying to Open D or E Drives

This is a problem facing by many users that "When I click on my D & E drives it does not open directly. A window appears and prompts me to OPEN WITH - “choose the program you want to use to open this file”"

You may want to try to re-register a certain dll file to get this to work again. Click on Start, Run and type regsvr32 /i shell32.dlland click ok.

Another process is to delete the autorun.inf file on each drive. Make sure that Windows Explorer is set to show all hidden and protected files.

Next find and delete the file named Autorun.inf in the drive's root. Then logoff the computer and log back in. You may need to make a blank autorun.inf and put it in the root of each drive if that doesn't work. To do this you can open Notepad, leave it blank and do a Save As and name it autorun.inf.

There is also a utility called FixDrive which is supposed to fix this problem. We have not tested it so use it at your own risk.

Despite initial hiccups such as running out of diskspace, Google+ has a solid chance to outrun Facebook.
"Google Social Networking offering "Google Plus" off to a very strong start - may leapfrog Facebook," Global Equities Research analyst Trip Chowdhry wrote in a note to clients.
The analyst said the network off to a solid start, with probably about 3 million to 3.5 million people signed up so far.
Paul Allen, founder of Ancestry.com, said there are more than 4.5 million people using Google+, leading him to believe that this social site "is Growing Like Crazy."
Google has attacked the Social Networking space with significant key innovations, including Circles, Sparks and Hangouts.

"These innovations significantly improve the usability, monetizability and user control in Google Plus," Chowdhry said.
"Converged view is "Google Plus puts Facebook back to the Drawing Board. Facebook has got too "cluttered over time" was a common complaint we heard," the analyst added.
Google+ offers an altogether different model of social networking.

Nokia has continued to churn out new handsets and update the older ones. The latest mobile phone from Nokia is C5-00 5MP. Even though Nokia did not make any formal announcement or hold any press event like it does normally, the new phone has already started to create buzz worldwide.

As the name suggests, C5-00 5MP has a 5 mega pixel camera with an enhanced depth of field (EdoF) sensor, and is similar in spec with C5. However, the enhancement is not restricted to just camera only. The internal storage has been increased from 50MB to 270MB, while RAM has been increased to 256MB. The handset runs on Symbian S60 OS and has all other high end features.

The C5 5MP has Bluetooth and FM Radio and preloaded apps like Ovi store, Facebook and YouTube. In addition, the screen size is 2.2 inches with a display resolution of 240x320 pixels (QVGA). The 3G device is expected to arrive in later this summer. No word on pricing as yet.

I am not sure how exact the color can be with just RGB ink cartridges though.

MacBook Air Launched in India

Apple has officially announced today that in two weeks time, its MacBook Air along with accompaniments, and its Time Capsule will be available in India at an Apple store near you.

The MacBook Air has been talked and written about recurrently ever since it was announced by Apple Chief, Steve Jobs, at the MacWorld 2008. The slimmest (no, thinnest) notebook in the world, as Jobs described it, measures just 0.76-inches at its thickest, and a mere 0.16-inches at its thinnest.

According to Apple, the notebook is essentially for the Mac-user on-the-move. This is where its portability and wireless convenience come into play.

The Silver Matte colored MacBook Air features a 13.3-inches LED back-lit wide-screen display; if you care about nature, you must know that it's Mercury-free. The MacBook Air features Intel Core 2 Duo processor and Intel 965GMS chipset with integrated Gfx using a new miniaturized package technology. It also features a 4,200rpm 1.8-inches hard disk drive with 80GB standard storage capacity, and 2GB RAM.

The MacBook Air has a built-in iSight Web cam, and a track-pad instead of the conventional touch-pad that works on a platform similar to that of the iPhone or iPod Touch.

While the petite frame of the notebook has been appreciated worldwide, its overall configuration has gathered mixed reactions. Which is primarily due to the fact that it gives the conventional optical drive a miss; the Firewire, Ethernet, media card reader, and expansion card slot are also absent from the notebook. Besides, there's only one USB port included in the MacBook Air.

For the missing optical drive, Apple has reassuringly provided consumers with an option to use the MacBook Air SuperDrive, which would be available at an additional cost of Rs 5,500.

For those who do not want to purchase the SuperDrive for their MacBook Air; they can use Apple's software feature on the notebook called Remote Disk. The feature enables you to "borrow" the optical drive of another Mac or PC on the same network as the MacBook Air.

Apple's MacBook Air is priced at Rs 96,100. It comes with a limited one-year warranty, on completion of which, additional support-warranty can be purchased from the company.

The other big launch, the Time Capsule, is an automatic data back-up solution that works over a wireless network. It can work as a wireless hard drive for both, the Mac and the PC.

On the Leopard operating system (OS), it works like a wireless hard drive that works in sync with Apple's in-house software, Time Machine. It also helps find lost files and restore all of Apple's software.

Time Capsule is a full Airport Extreme base station with 802.11n wireless and four Ethernet ports, plus server grade hard drives to back-up multiple Macs over a network.

Apple's Time Capsule will be available in two capacities: 500GB at a price tag of Rs 16,700, and 1TB for Rs 27,200.

No doubt these devices from Apple are considered ground-breaking. But keeping the Indian consumer in mind, the wireless factor in the MacBook Air will surely take some time to get absorbed.

Microsoft launches Windows Phone 7

LONDON: Microsoft has unveiled a new range of smartphones to rival the phenomenal success of Apple's iPhone.

The company wants its new operating system, Windows Phone 7 (WP7), to put its mobile business back in the running against not just Apple, but also Google, which makes the Android phone software, among others.

Speaking at a launch event in New York Monday, Microsoft boss Steve Ballmer said: "Everybody should be able to take a look at a Windows Phone and say it can represent me."

The world's largest software company is hoping that the new phones, from handset makers Samsung, LG, HTC and Dell, will propel it back into the mobile market, which many see as the key to the future of computing, reports the Daily Mail.

The new phones, initially available on the T-Mobile network in Britain and on AT&T in the US, are much closer in look and feel to Apple's iPhone , with colourful touch-screens and 'tiles' for easy access to email, the Web, music and other applications.

Ballmer, who has admitted that his company 'missed a generation' with its recent unpopular phone offerings, said the new phones would eventually be available from 60 mobile operators in 30 countries.

Meanwhile, at a simultaneous launch event at London's Institute Of Contemporary Arts (ICA), Microsoft announced that WP7 will be coming on the Dell Venue Pro by Christmas.

Dell's Venue Pro will join five other WP7 handsets - three from HTC and one each from LG and Samsung - in the British market in the coming months.

In the US, the first phone from AT&T, priced at $200, will be available Nov 8.

Six Windows Phone 7 handsets will be released in Britain in the coming months, including three from HTC and the Dell Venue Pro, which is the only model to come with a slide-out keyboard

Microsoft has a market share of only five percent in the global smartphone market, according to research firm Gartner, compared with nine percent a year ago.

Gartner expects almost 270 million smartphones to be sold around the world this year, up 56 percent from last year.

Utility Bytes Nokia launches N8 smartphone

Mobile handset leader Nokia, which has been steadily losing out to rivals in general of all hues of late, on Tuesday launched the much-anticipated smartphone Nokia N8 with Ovi services, in its attempt to claw back market share and remain relevant to fast-changing consumers. The N8, priced at Rs
26,259 apiece, comes with the Ovi services that enable a user to create content, connect to his/her favourite social networks and enjoy on-demand online television programmes. Ovi by Nokia is the brand for the world's largest cellphone maker's Internet service that can be used by a mobile device or computer.

"The consumer is in the centre of all that we do at Nokia and we are constantly innovating to enhance user experience and address user feedback," said Nokia India vice-president and managing director D Shivakumar said at the launch in Mumabi.

While the company today refused to speak about market share or sales numbers, saying it is in silent mode, according to the latest IDC report, Nokia's market share plunged to a poor 36.3 per cent by end-June here from 54 per cent at the end of 2009 and over 70 per cent in 2008.

The IDC report shows that domestic companies like Micromax, Spice, Karbon and Lava which import handsets from China, shot up to 33 per cent during the past six months. In 2008, the domestic players had a paltry 0.9 per cent market share.

It would be hard to overlook the numerous steampunk gadgets that people have built and sold. However, I can’t say that I’ve come across anyone that has as many and as broad of a collection as Ivan Mavrovic. His features everything from a pen disguised as a gun, to toothbrushes and razors. The most interesting out of the bunch are the several cellphones that he’s managed to steampunk.

It appears his specialty is with Nokia phones since all of the phones he’s managed to steampunk appear to be Nokia phones. Each one of the phones look very different from the rest. They’re all fully functioning despite their antique appearance. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that these are up for sale, but it might be possible to contact the designer to have something like this made for you. That is if you have a whole lot of cash that you’re willing to spend.

Mag Gun for FPS games

This is the Mag Gun controller, and it is probably one of the most advanced FPS gun controllers that I have ever seen.
I have included a video after the jump if you want to see it in action, and it has a lot of action to see. You will note how the controller has a joystick on it that will control in-game movement, and it looks like all the other major controls are located in a very convenient place.
Another thing you might note is how it has a wide-angle camera that can be calibrated with just touch of a button. It also has a sensitivity dial atop of it for some serious user adjustment.
Best of all, the Mag Gun appears to be compatible with practically any console. I believe that the video specified the Xbox 360 and PS3, but there is nothing about the Wii. Somehow, I am not surprised at that.
Now, if only someone would go and mass produce this thing. That’s right, this is not an official product as yet. It made a debut a recent Hong Kong gaming show, and since it was available for purchase there, it can probably be purchased privately.
Personally, I think that someone is going to purchase this an change the market of FPS games so that Halo, Gears of War, and Medal of Honor can be played with a lot more realism.

Venturi Buckeye Bullet breaks 300mph Hydrogen speed record

I always like seeing this cars that look more like rockets, designed to do nothing more than just go really, really, really fast.
This is one of the latest of these super-fast vehicles, known as the Venturi Buckeye Bullet. It was built by student engineers, at Ohio State University’s Center for Automotive Research.
It also runs on hydrogen, and it just achieved an average speed of 307.7 mph at a two-run pass at the Bonneville Salt Flats on August 24.
I must admit that I have never been to the Salt Flats before, but if this picture is what they look like, then it looks like a frozen over ocean. I like how the Venturi Buckeye Bullet looks a lot like a shark in the midst of these frozen-over waters.
As for the “car”, for lack of a better word, is about 36 feet long and is only 1.5 inches from the ground. The battery pack in the Venturi Buckeye Bullet V 2.5, is capable of providing “instantaneous power of more than 600 kW. The pack reportedly uses 1,600 cells’.
I believe that the speed record for this particular vehicle is the fastest for any hydrogen-based vehicle. I have heard that the actual land speed record is over 700 miles per hour, with a non-hydrogen vehicle.

Dell Streak arrives in the US at long last

The Dell Streak has had its fair chance to shine in the UK for some time already, so it is now the time for folks in the US to play with the Streak. Dell has just made available their 5″ tablet device to North America, but not without some initial snags already. It seems that while you are able to pick it up for $299.99 with a new 2-year AT&T contract, there is also an option to do so for a rather $549.99 without. The snag? Even if you want to put in a SIM card from another carrier, you can’t, simply because the Dell Streak is carrier locked to AT&T. These utility towers are designed by the Massachusetts architecture firm Choi + Shire, and they recently won an honorable mention award at the Icelandic High Voltage Electrical Pylon International Design Competition, as well as an award from the Boston Society of Architects for unbuilt architecture.

I suppose the real question is, would this look good in real life? In all honesty, I can tell you what it reminds me of: Batman and Robin. Yes, the last ever Joel Schumacher Batman film that dared to show Gotham city as this place where statues and buildings were as one.
I didn’t see a single high voltage tower in that film, but it would probably look like this.
I mean, do we want all of our structures to look like people? I mean, what does that say about us as people, that we like to structure our buildings after our own bodies? That is kind of crazy.

This must be one of (if not the) coolest spy gadgets I’ve ever reported on. It’s sort of a cross between a USB memory stick and a GPS receiver and what it does is store where ever you take it on the flash memory.
The Portable GPS Tracker is pretty small so you could either always carry it on you or use it in 007 spy mode by planting it on a person or vehicle you want to monitor. You may be wondering how you retrieve the stored info and secret routes, well that’s where it gets really cool.

Once the tracker has done it’s travels and it’s back in your possession you simply connect it to you PC and download the data. This data can then be plotted on Google Earth, Mapquest, maps.google.com and Virtual Earth to show exactly where it’s been, how long it took and how it got there.
I just think this is so cool (may of said cool a record number of times in this post) it obviously has the spy functionality of tracking somebody else but to me it is even more useful for tracking your own holidays and backpacking adventures. So not only can you bore visitors with your holiday snaps you can also show them exactly where you went.

Due to the development of computer technology, computer monitors have changed a lot. At first, we had VGA monitors and after them the DVI monitors came. We have never imagined that we’ll see the day when monitors will be using USB 2.0 port. Once again, Samsung was responsible for this, providing us with a brand new monitor that uses only forked USB cable for powering.

USB displays are nothing new and they can be quite useful but the main problem with them is that they are often so small that they are almost unusable for any users that want to enjoy multimedia or latest games on it. New USB monitor supports 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, it uses 250cd/m2 brightness and 1000:1 contrast ratio. Only problem with this model is that it is using edge-lit type backlight that uses LEDs as light source and therefore it has half the lifetime of the standard LCD monitor.
This is rather interesting monitor from Samsung and it’s the first of its kind, so we can’t wait to see more USB monitors from Samsung in near future.

Google Chrome OS Launching in Autumn

Google said today that it is planning on launching Google Chrome OS this year in the autumn. Chrome OS will be free to use.It is expected that millions of people will download the new operating system when it launches. The OS it's self is based around the Chrome browser and is designed to function with web based applications such as Google Docs, GMail and other applications. All data is stored in the cloud allowing you to open up your computer session from any computer or tablet that runs the OS.

It is unclear at the moment if Google Chrome OS will pose any threat to Microsoft [MSFT] and the Windows operating system. Although both allow you to get online, the main difference is that with an MS, Linux or Mac OS X operating system you can install programs locally and have more power at your fingertips. On the other hand, Chrome OS aims to bring to people the services that they need with the top of the list being internet access. A lot of time used up on computers is for browsing the web and sending emails. Chrome OS appears to be muscling in on this side of things.

Ten years from now, flexible OLED touchscreens will be commonplace. Here's a design concept that incorporates that technology in a most delightful way. Designer Hiromi Kiriki taps Sony for this spectacular Nextep wrist computer that does just about anything full-sized computers can do today.
Notice the handy pullout keyboard, and augmenting that OLED touchscreen is a holographic projector for large-scale viewing. Sure, it's a design concept, but just look at the gorgeous pictures,keeping in mind that all of this technology is almost ready. We so want this, but it's probably not going to be coming from Sony.

Skype enables iPhone owners to make 3G calls

Skype has finally brought to life a feature that many iPhone owners had wished for for a long,long time already – we’re talking about the iPhone being able to make 3G calls. Yes, this new version of its application is available from the Apple App Store, where it enables iPhone users to make as well as receive Skype-to-Skype calls, not to mention to call mobiles and landlines worldwide without breaking the bank using nothing but their 3G data connection. Of course, a lot of the call quality depends on your signal strength as well as the amount of network congestion, but I’m sure that most of us won’t mind sacrificing a little bit of quality to save a whole lot of dollars, right?

Skype-to-Skype calls on 3G will be available for free at the moment during its trial period, although that won’t be the case once 2011 rolls around. Of course, during this period, each call that you make will still be charged by operators accordingly. There will be more information on pricing in the coming months which will be in line with Skype’s commitment to provide customers with additional value. Skype-to-Skype calls over Wi-Fi, however, will still remain free, so you might want to stick to that option if you’re traveling to a city with plenty of Starbucks and McDonald’s outlets around.
Among the new features of the Skype for iPhone application include :-

Bear in mind that this calling functionality is available on iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and 2nd generation iPod touch onwards, where the iPod touch requires a compatible headset with a microphone. We do wonder how the original iPhone owners are going to rock with it though, since it maxes out at EDGE connectivity.
